This is part two of my fabulous day at the zoo with my family!

As our day was coming to a close, we wandered out of the reptile house to catch a glimpse of this beautiful, double rainbow! The whole day was filled with some sprinkles, evidently leading to this gorgeous sight!

My family and I have been frequent zoo goers for years, but it had been a while since our last visit! We figured a beautiful December day would be the perfect time to make our return! Our initial date of return got cancelled because of the typical Pittsburgh pouring rain! In a positive turn of events we ended up at the Natural History and Art Museum. You can read all about my day at the museum by clicking here! We rescheduled our trip for a few days later. I woke up the morning of our zoo day to the pitter-patter of raindrops hitting my window. The sprinkles would stop and start throughout the day leaving the zoo almost empty. This vacancy was perfect for being able to experience the animals without having to do it from behind a crowd!

In todays zoo post I'm going to describe my time in the aquarium! We reached the aquarium in perfect timing, just as the rain started to pick up, we traveled inside. We were immersed into a world of darkness, the only light in the room was spotlighting the fish and sea creatures. I'm a big beach fan, but sea animals are not my fav! Even though they kind of freak me out, I can't lie, they are beautiful to look at, just as long as there is a piece of glass between us. There are so many different types of fish and sea animals to spot I don't even know what they all are! While gazing at all of the filled tanks and capturing some pictures, a certain type of animal really stood out, the turtles. There were two different types of turtles that I could not stop watching, I was so encapsulated that I forgot to look and see what type of turtle they were! The first turtles that caught my attention were tiny and the lights in the tank made them look as though they were glow in the dark! The tank had two of these little turtles in it. The entire time we were watching them swim around it looked like they were playing a game of tag! When one turtle would swim off, the other would follow right behind! I loved seeing the turtles race upwards and break the water's surface gasping for air. While on top of the water I would see little bubbles escape from the clasp of the turtles mouth.

The next turtle that caught my eye is another that I unfortunately do not know the name of. As I gallivanted down a ramp in the aquarium I spotted a black turtle with white lines outlining the shell, gliding through the water. The turtles dark color created an amazing contrast from the light greenish yellow tank. The turtle's habitat gives visitors an amazing perspective over the turtle, a birds-eye view. It was amazing to see the turtle effortlessly float around in the water. When the animal coasts around it moves so quickly, but it looks like the arms and legs of the turtle are barely moving! Before coming to the zoo I had never seen or even heard of a black turtle, but I'm very happy I now have! Everyone should go to the PPG Aquarium to see these fun, unique looking turtles.
